iNVRS Pedal
0000-1463
Regular price $69.00 USDIntroducing our latest innovation; the iNVRS pedal system (patent pending). As the name implies, we’ve taken the design of traditional spiked flat pedals, and turned them upside down! The spikes, or studs, have been moved from the pedal, to the sole of your riding shoes.
The secure grip you expect while riding spiked flat pedals is still there, but without the bleeding shins, and with superior footing when you step off the bike.
The iNVRS pedals (patent pending) have a conventional polymer body, alloy axle, bearings and seals. But the spikes have been replaced with a proprietary-compound, rubber surface, that is designed to grab onto studs in the sole of your riding shoes.
You can stud your favorite flat riding shoes with our carbide-tipped studs, or you can snap a SPD Studded Cleat (patent pending) into your SPD riding shoes. Either way, you get incredible grip on the pedals, and on the ground – just don’t walk across your hardwood floors at home in these shoes!
This system works well in any season, in any weather. But it performs exceptionally well in the winter. You can stud your favorite, warm, winter boots and get secure footing on ice and snow, AND secure grip on your pedals.
And the iNVRS system is also great for kids, since the pedals are no longer a weapon.
9point8 iNVRS RUBBER SURFACE. We developed our own proprietary rubber compound to offer industry leading high grip and durability.
FULLY SERVICEABLE. ALL parts needed to service your iNVRS pedal are available including the rubber pads to keep you pedaling.

iNVRS Stud Options
What to Watch For when Studding Shoes/Boots
When choosing Studs or SPD cleats (or both), the type of shoe you plan to use will have a major impact on your options. Most, but not all shoes, are able to accept studs. Short studs penetrate about 8mm so you would want at least a 10mm thick sole minimum for those. Long studs penetrate about 11mm so you would want a sole thickness of 13mm minimum for those. Don't include the insole when measuring. Shoe construction should also be a consideration, a thin outer rubber sole with an internal waffled structure could be difficult to stud. Ideally the studs thread best into a consistent solid rubber material. Be aware of your shoes air pockets, or any other structural enhancements that may interfere with studding. Always check with your hand or foot after installing your first stud and insure it is not poking through your sole.
SPD Skate-Shoe Style Riding Shoes for the most part have a structural plate that runs the length of the shoe very close to the sole. This makes having enough rubber to penetrate not always available. If you know the size and where your plate is, you could place studs around the perimeter of the plate.
Skate-Shoe Style or Traditional Flat Riding Shoes are a great choice and offer lots of studding pattern options. Always see how thick your sole is when choosing your studs. . See the size reference above
Chunky Tread MTB Racing Shoes with thick rubber lugs are able to run both the SPD Cleat and Studs simultaneously
Traditional Racing SPD Shoes can only use the SPD cleat. Studs will not screw into hard plastic
Hiking Shoes or Boots are a terrific choice for wet or winter riding, lots of tread thickness, so your studding options are endless.
Flip Flops and Regular Everyday Shoes, Yes you can stud pretty much anything with a solid rubber sole, but keep in mind sole thickness when choosing studs, and be aware of your shoes air pockets and construction
Always check with your hand or foot after installing your first stud and insure it is not poking through your sole.
How, or where, do I get studded footwear for iNVRS pedals?
Unless you can find pre-studded footwear, your best option is to install iNVRS studs in your favourite shoes or boots. Or, if you prefer SPD clipless footwear, just buy our SPD Studded Cleat!
Can I ride iNVRS pedals with regular, un-studded footwear?
Technically you can, but we do not recommend it. But be aware that the grip level without studs is much lower than the grip with studs. iNVRS pedals can be used for city riding, beach riding, casual riding, but remember that the grip level will be reduced, unless you use studs.
Do iNVRS pedals prevent ‘Shinning’ and other injuries?
Yes! Because the studs are in the sole of your shoe, and not in the pedal, iNVRS pedals are much more safe than traditional flat pedals.
Will the iNVRS pedal rubber surface be durable?
Yes! The pedal rubber surface is extremely durable, like the rubber soles on your favourite riding shoes. After a few years, the rubber surface may become worn; but don’t fret, replacement rubber pads are available and inexpensive.
Is the grip as good as spiked flat pedals?
Traditional spiked pedals push their spikes up into the special rubber on the soles of your riding shoes. iNVRS simply flips this mechanism upside down, with the iNVRS studs on your shoes or boots pushing down into the special rubber on the pedal surface. So, the grip available, is comparable.
Do iNVRS work in the winter?
iNVRS pedals are IDEAL in the winter. They have been tested to sub-zero temperatures in Canadian winters for over four years, and they work extremely well. Your feet stay warm because you can use your favourite warm winter boots, and the special rubber on the pedals remains compliant and grips the studs. And when you step off your bike, you have studded traction on the snow and ice!
Do iNVRS studs stay sharp and grippy?
Yes! The tips of all iNVRS studs are hard carbide, and stay sharp for years and years, even if you walk on dirt, gravel, rock slab, wood, sand, snow or ice.
How do INVRS pedals work for dirt jump and stunt riding?
iNVRS pedals with shoe studs are great for stunt riding and can prevent many leg injuries, especially while learning new tricks.
How do I choose the right shoes or boots for studding?
Can I buy studs from other vendors to use with 9point8 iNVRS pedals?
Yes, but they don’t work as well.
