Developing the iNVRS Pedal System

The 9point8 iNVRS Pedal System is the result of more than four years of development, with a goal to produce a flat pedal technology that has riding grip that is comparable to traditional flats, but provides much better off-bike grip, AND reduces injuries. Our pedal system is Patent Pending.
Conceptually, flipping the studs/rubber upside down, with the studs on the shoe and the rubber on the pedals, seems straightforward. But isn't at all.
Proprietary Rubber Pedal Pads
First, the rubber. For good grip, you need your studs to penetrate deep into the rubber surface. But more importantly, you need the rubber to be of an extremely low-rebound, high resilience, compound. The formulations for the low-rebound rubber used on premium riding shoes is proprietary. We spent years developing our own formulation to provide the better low-rebound, high-grip characteristics than even the the BEST shoe soles.
And we tested the best compounds with different tread patterns to maximize stud engagement, while providing the best snow and mud clearing characteristics.
The rubber pads are inexpensive, and easy to replace on your own, when they get worn.
Pedal Body and Shape
We experimented with solid pedal bodies, open pedal bodies, convex pedal surfaces, concave pedal surfaces, and flat pedal surfaces. We tried large and small platform sizes to find an optimum, stable pedal. And most importantly, we developed shapes to prevent the rubber pedal pads from being peeled off by pedal strikes.
Thread-in Studs, and SPD Studded Cleats
Our studs were developed to work well with summer and winter footwear. They are carbide-tipped to stay sharp for years and years.
Testing, Testing, Testing
For the past few years, we've been riding these pedals in all seasons. They have been tested in the depths of Canadian winter, and the heat of summer. We've tested them on trails, dirt-jump, and gravity parks. We've tested them riding, and in the lab. They work.
